This petition is to create a dummy GP character.
Like the RPG and Lambda Reapers, GP owns several objects that belong to the
group as a whole. However, up until now, the individual exec members have had
to take over ownership of these objects and support them with their own
quota. This causes several problems:
1) If an exec were to lose access to lambda, access to the GP objects in that
exec's posession would be lost as well. This happened when Slim_Dusty was
gone for an extended period of time and was removed from office. As a result,
Slim_Dusty, a non-exec, now owns the GP Common Room.
2) Exec members don't always have the quota to support these items so they
find themselves asking the membership for donations. But some members are
cautious about giving a GP donation to an indepenent character. Plus, if that
exec ever steps down, they take that 'GP quota' with them.
3) If all GP items were owned by a dummy character, then any exec could access
these items. There would no longer be a need for lkj and jar to switch
ownership of the voting booth back and forth and there wouldn't be a problem
with *gp going over quota with nobody around to reset it.
The RPG and Reapers have solved these and similar problems with the creation
and use of dummy characters.
I have talked about this extensively with a couple of wizards and getting a
dummy character is super simple. All we have to do is ask the registrars and
poof! We've got a dummy character. :) However, it doesn't come with any quota
so the membership would be asked to make donations to support the 200k worth
of GP objects and the execs who have received GP donations would be asked to
pass that on to the GP character. Then all execs would have the password for
the dummy character so that they can all access it. The alternate would not
have access to the dummy character.
